April Brown

Cultural Producer, Programme Manager, and Mentor in London

Hello, I’m April. I'm a cultural producer and programme manager committed to supporting diverse talent to flourish.

I specialise in developing inclusive, multi-disciplinary programmes for emerging creatives and I've worked with a range of creative organisations including Creative Access, Somerset House, Tate, LIFT, A New Direction and Theatre Royal Stratford East.

I have ten years of experience in cultural project and programme management catering to diverse audiences. A thoughtful facilitator and mentor with a passion for community engagement and inclusion; my ability to work autonomously has allowed me to successfully manage projects for a range of business and not-for-profit work environments.

I'm an Associate Member of Black Curators Collective (BCC); a collective and forum for black women and non-binary curators in the UK. I'm also a fellow of The School for Social Entrepreneurs and an alumna of the UpRising Leadership Programme. Most recently, I completed the Clore Emerging Leaders Programme and became a Grand Plan judge.

Grand Plan is a fund run by creatives, for creatives. We are supported by a community of artists and creative ambassadors who give their time and money to back the realisation of new cultural projects.

We award £1,000 grants to creative people of colour based in the UK who want to make a new cultural project happen. It can be anything from poetry, paintings, fashion, zines, music, food, flowers, photographs to workshops or events — whatever you want.
